PROJECT
The Right Angle
PURPOSE
To tackle under-achievement through academic support and therapeutic interventions
FUNDING
The project costs a minimum of £2,000 per child to deliver. The Department for Education’s Alternative Provision Innovation Fund provided £510,888 for the project’s first two years with further funding coming from Oldham Opportunity Area. Other funders include Porticus UK and the MariaMarina Foundation
BACKGROUND
In 2018 the Department for Education launched funding for innovative projects to support vulnerable children in alternative provision such as pupil referral units (PRUs). Two Manchester-based charities – Tutor Trust and TLC: Talk, Listen, Change – put together a bid. The Tutor Trust offers tutoring in maths, English and science to children and families who could not otherwise afford it while TLC is a charity focused on emotional wellbeing.
