PROJECT
Kent County Council and Coram Post-Adoption Support Team (Past)
FUNDING
The team costs £434,000 in 2017/18, funded by the authority and the government's Adoption Support Fund
BACKGROUND
Kent County Council commissioned children's charity Coram as an adoption service improvement partner in 2012. In 2014, they joined forces to expand and restructure post-adoption support, after a review found the small social worker team lacked the clinical expertise needed for complex emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
ACTION
Past is led jointly by a social worker manager and Coram's clinical lead, a systemic psychotherapist seconded from Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. There is also a systemic practitioner, child and adult psychotherapists, a systemic and family psychotherapist, music therapist and two social workers. All use a "trauma-informed" and "psychodynamic" approach.
