Provider Young Person's Advisory Service
The Young Person's Advisory Service (YPAS), a mental health support service based in Merseyside, recruited young people to research youth violence in their area as part of the Peer Action Collective (PAC), a national youth-led network that encourages local research and action to create safer communities.
The project hired 15 young people aged 16 to 22 from across Merseyside as peer researchers, giving them the opportunity to engage with young people in their community on the topic of youth violence, and turn their research findings into social action.
The group met online twice a week and in-person to engage in team-building activities, says Luise Watson, PAC participation co-ordinator. The project ran for 18 months, as the young people ran consultations in their communities, led focus groups and workshops, and collated their findings in a final research report on youth violence.
