We use a motivational practice model, which is a combination of motivational interviewing and trauma informed practice.
It was called motivational social work and implemented solely in social care services but as soon as we could see the benefits of it and the positive impact it was having on children and their families, we questioned why would we only keep the model in social work? Social workers are part of a wider system and so rolling out the model to early help practitioners and youth justice practitioners as well as raising awareness of the impact of developmental trauma to partner agencies and other council departments was considered the way forward.
