
The past five years has seen a significant turnaround in the performance and perception of children’s social care services in the London borough of Haringey.
Criticism of the council’s child protection services during inquiries into the deaths of Victoria Climbie and Peter Connolly in 2000 and 2007 respectively highlighted the challenges the department faced throughout that decade.
However, since children’s services moved out of special measures in 2013, the council has delivered steady progress. In 2018, Ofsted judged it “requires improvement” and the latest inspection report, published in April, upgraded the department to “good” for the first time.
