For her fellowship, Smith visited suicide prevention programmes across the United States of America and Australia in 2023. Further expert insights were obtained through interviews with leading researchers in the suicide prevention field: Richard Lieberman, Dr Madelyn Gould, and Dr Anna Mueller.
Upon returning from the Fellowship travels, meetings were held with UK citizens who have firsthand experience of the impact of the situation in UK schools. The aim of the fellowship was to explore how schools can be better equipped to support children and young people, by drawing on global best practices.
