Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge

PURPOSE

To amplify young people’s voices by building confidence, developing skills and creating platforms for young people to share their stories and ideas

FUNDING

In 2021/22, £860,429 from the Jack Petchey Foundation to deliver an extended programme

BACKGROUND

The Speak Out Challenge was developed by Speakers Trust, a charity that trains young people to become more effective communicators and use their voices to drive change. “A lot of adults will say speaking in public is their biggest fear but speaking to a group is something most people will have to do at some point,” says Alanna Beeken, programmes director at Speakers Trust. “If we can nip that fear in the bud early, it does not become a problem later on. It also builds confidence – once you know you can speak in front of your class, what else can you do?”
