How children learn to resolve conflict

2 mins read Education Extra-curricular
Project helps build children's conflict resolution skills.

Project: Young Peacemakers Project

Funding: Primary schools typically pay between a third and half of the £3,000-£3,500 cost for a "whole school" programme, subsidised by a range of grants

Background: Conflict Resolution Education in Sheffield Schools Training (Cresst) has been running since 2004. It was the brainchild of former teacher Helen Griffin, inspired by a pilot created by Development Education Centre South Yorkshire, and kick-started by a cash legacy left to Quakers in Sheffield by university lecturer Eric Mackerness. Young Peacemakers is Cresst's scheme for primary schools.

Action: The scheme is mainly aimed at years 5 and 6 although it can be adapted for younger children.
