Project Kids Company

Funding Kids Company had an income of £13m in 2009, according to its latest accounts. This included almost £5m from central and local government sources as well more than £5.4m in donations from charitable trusts and foundations, individuals and the corporate sector

Purpose To provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable children and young people

Background Psychotherapist Camila Batmanghelidjh set up Kids Company in six converted railway arches in London in 1996. Her aim was to provide a haven for some of the capital's most vulnerable young people.

"What actually happened was we had about 100 self-referrals - young men from gangs who basically came to trash the place.
