
Walton Youth and Community Project has been supporting young people in Liverpool for more than 25 years by actively engaging with them in their own local spaces.
The charity believes using detached, instead of place-based, youth work allows it to connect with a wider range of young people and deliver more tailored and individualised support.
“I’ve always had a beating heart for detached youth work because I see the benefits of what it does,” says Darren Simpson, the project’s youth and community manager, who has worked for the organisation since 1998.
“It’s a unique angle of our youth work because some people don’t quite understand what we do and assume it’s outreach work.
