Slough Children First (SCF) is a council-run service that provides social care and support services to children, young people and families.

As part of its commitment to ensuring every child in its care is “happy, safe, loved, and thriving”, it has been carrying out unannounced quality assurance (QA) visits to its commissioned residential homes, schools, and supported accommodation since October 2023.

“When commissioning homes, our priority is to secure the right homes – of the right quality, in the right numbers, at the right time and place, and at the right cost. But we wanted to go one step further and ensure that we get a true picture of where our children are living,” explains Rose Ngonyama, head of service for commissioning and placements at SCF.
