PROJECT

Physical activity and nutrition co-ordinators

PURPOSE

To support obesity prevention work in early years settings

FUNDING

The course costs £200 to complete

BACKGROUND

In 2009, Linda Baston-Pitt, then leader of a large day nursery, ran a health and wellbeing conference for stakeholders across health and education. From this a small team of professionals came together to develop training for a new role in early years settings – the physical activity and nutrition co-ordinator (Panco). This role was designed to champion best practice in physical activity and nutrition and lead positive change in settings, ensuring an environment and ethos that supports the prevention of obesity and the promotion of health and wellbeing of children, families, and staff.
