
Dental experts and children’s health campaigners have put forward proposals to tackle what they describe as a “crisis” in children’s oral health in England.
The call for action comes after a report highlights how tooth decay is affecting millions of children and young people in England with rates of gum disease and decay-related tooth extractions higher in the most deprived areas of the North.
In addition to the damage to a child’s health, the report – published by Child of the North and the Centre for Young Lives – warns that poor oral health can damage children’s speech development, eating and sleeping habits and education due to missed schooling.
