An innovative programme that takes a community-based approach to protecting children from abuse has identified the “active ingredients” to strengthening local safeguarding systems and practices.

The NSPCC's Together for Childhood (TfC) initiative, established in 2017, is a place-based programme focused on child abuse prevention through collaborative community efforts. Operating across Grimsby, Glasgow, Plymouth and Stoke, the programme aims to build lasting systemic change by bringing local communities together to keep children safe from abuse.

Through creating a wide range of local partnerships between social care, schools, health, voluntary and community groups, alongside the police, the NSPCC and communities works collaboratively to develop and test effective approaches for preventing child abuse, drawing on examples of best practice from around the world.
