In the recent Queen's Speech, the government announced plans to “prioritise early years” in the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the speech, which sets out the government's policy priorities for the coming year, the Queen told the House of Lords that measures will be brought forward “to ensure that children have the best start in life, prioritising the early years”.
In a tweet following the speech, 10 Downing Street added: “Our Early Years Strategy will ensure the youngest members of society are given support to fulfil their potential.”
The pledge has been welcomed by the early years sector as a chance to repair some of the damage wrought by the pandemic over the past 15 months, which has seen many childcare providers go out of business.
