Coping with pandemic lockdowns

A fifth of England’s population is under local restrictions, presenting challenges for children’s services.

Amid a rise in Covid-19 infections and hospital admissions across England in recent weeks, the government has announced a host of new national and local restrictions designed to stem the spread of the virus.

By late September, more than 12 million people living in parts of the North West, West Yorkshire, North East and West Midlands have had local lockdown restrictions imposed, limiting access to shops and leisure facilities, distances they can travel and the mixing of different households.

Following the reopening of schools to all children and the return to university of students, the Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) has highlighted the importance of council public health teams working with local communities to ensure restrictions are understood.
