Field Forces – Round 2!

I’m delighted that the ADCS has now clarified for its members the organisation of the new field forces in the DfE. We are told that there is a national Director with three regional Supporting School Improvement Divisions led by Deputy Directors. In each of the regional teams there is a ‘lead DfE official’ who will be the key contact for each local authority for schools below the floor, as well as ‘Lead Advisers’ who will be commissioned (what else?) by the Schools Commissioner to ‘diagnose and monitor particular issues in schools below the floor’. In addition, the School’s Commissioner has a Deputy Director who has two Team Leaders, each responsible for a geographical area (not, therefore, the same regions as the Supporting Schools Improvement Divisions). Within these teams there are ‘OSC Brokers’ who will have conversations with local authorities to explore whether an academy is the right solution for schools below the floor and/or those in an Ofsted category.  There are also ‘OSC Sponsor Brokers’ who work with OSC Brokers to agree an appropriate sponsor package for each project in development. Finally, for sponsored academies and schools judged satisfactory by Ofsted seeking to become part of an academy chain, an ‘Academy Education Adviser’ is allocated. I hope that this is all quite clear; there will be a short test later.
