But Wandsworth gets it wrong ...

Liberty is supporting the case of a single mother and her daughter who are facing eviction from her Council flat in Wandsworth because of the alleged involvement of her son in the summer riots.

Liberty points up a number of mitigating factors, including the fact that the single mother concerned is a pillar of the local community - 'Big Society' writ small. Of course that's important, and well-worth celebrating. But the underlying fact is that no-one should be evicted from a Council property unless they, personally, have been causing distress to others.

And the corollary is, if they are evicted, where will they go? It's like school exclusions - the cure so often makes the problem worse.
