North Tyneside pupils benefit from free breakfasts

Free breakfasts are being introduced in primary schools across North Tyneside this month.
The Fuel 4 Kids scheme offers Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils cereal, toast,fruit juice and fresh fruit. The initiative was tested at a number ofschools, including Moor Edge Primary School where an evaluation reported"significant increases" in the number of children achieving level fouror above in the standard assessments tests in English and maths. Headteacher Lesley Clelland said: "We've noticed a marked improvement inpupils' ability to concentrate."
