Tackling foster carer decline

Latest Ofsted data published in November revealed a worrying decline in available foster care placements while applications from prospective carers had also fallen.

The annual Fostering in England statistics covering the 12-month period up to 31 March 2020, shows that while the number of fostering households and places had risen three per cent there had been a 13 per cent decrease in available places.

The data, which covers the period before the pandemic, also shows that while expressions of interest in becoming a foster carer were up, there was a 10 per cent fall in the number of people being approved by fostering agencies.
