Substance Use and Antisocial Behaviour in Adolescence

Researchers from University College London’s Centre for Longitudinal Studies analysed data from the Millennium Cohort Study. This study collected information from nearly 10,000 people across the UK on a range of risky behaviours – including antisocial behaviour – when participants were 17 years old in 2018/19. Data on some of those behaviours had also been collected at ages 11 and 14.

Machine learning in children’s services: does it work?

What Works for Children’s Social Care worked with four local authorities to develop models to predict eight outcomes for individual cases. The predictions all focused on a point within the children’s journey where the social worker would be making a decision about whether to intervene in a case or not and the level of intervention required, and looked ahead to see whether the case would escalate at a later point.

The Pandemic Pressures study is a collaboration between the Resolution Foundation think-tank and the Nuffield Foundation-funded Covid Realities research project at the University of York. In general, average household spending has fallen by 10 per cent during the pandemic with decreased spend on leisure activities, meals out, holidays and commuting costs.

Unlocking the Facts: Young People Referred to Secure Children’s Homes

There are 22 secure children’s homes across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Young people can be placed in a secure children’s home via the criminal justice system. They may also be placed in a secure home due to concerns they pose a serious risk to others or cannot be kept safe in the community. If a place is not found, young people are placed in alternative accommodation sourced and provided by their local authority, which can include less-secure residential children’s homes, foster care and unregulated placements.
