Sure Start Whitton and Central Ipswich encouraged parents to bring their children along for a day of activities at a family event in Ipswich's refurbished County Library last week. The morning event included songs and rhymes, arts and crafts, games, and a story time. Melanie Naish, play development worker for the Sure Start programme, said the aim of the event was to let families see how much libraries offered children as well as adults. Four of the 11 families who came along joined the library for the first time.

NCB Now: Political parties debate children's issues

Children's minister Margaret Hodge MP and opposition children's spokespeople Tim Loughton MP (Conservative) and Annette Brooke MP (Liberal Democrats) will outline how their parties intend to address young people's issues at a public debate organised by NCB. The debate will take place at Abbey Community Centre, Westminster, on 1 December.
