NYA Update: Engagement network evaluation and guidance launched

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

In 2009 the National Youth Agency was asked to build on the work of Hidden Talents, a Local Government Association project that examined more effective solutions in re-engaging young people not in education, employment or training (Neet) and supporting them to be more involved in shaping local governmentprovision.

In response, the NYA, supported by the Local Government Association, developed the Engagement Network – designed to work with and advise local authorities on their provision and services, and to establish new processes for involved young people who are Neet in developing the local offer.

During 2010, the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) undertook an evaluation of the NYA’s engagement network model and found that, if given adequate levels of resourcing and support from elected members, it provides local authorities with a new way of engaging with young people who are Neet.

In addition, NFER has developed an effective practice guide, which includes examples of what works for those involved in projects related to enabling young people who are Neet to have their say and influence provision.
