NYA Update: Community widens to support sector

Friday, February 17, 2012

The National Youth Agency and Local Government Association are to widen membership of its Supporting Services for Young People Community of Practice.

The community, set up in 2011, will serve as a free electronic entrance gateway to a variety of resources including forums, blogs, online events and a document library. It is a resource designed for all those that work in the youth sector. The Department for Education and the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services will also be working to widen membership and develop content.

The community of practice will be a legacy site for Positive for Youth, hosting materials relating to this and be the location for discussions that arise. It will be used to hold, promote and seek information for the voluntary and community sector as well as remaining the location for the NYA’s Routes to Success programme of work for local authorities.

Alex Stutz, NYA head of policy, comments: "As a greater emphasis is placed on collaboration and partnership with the introduction of Positive for Youth, we recognise the importance of providing a single hub for the sector to come together to develop its practice and share knowledge on a local and national level."

The wider community will be launched in March 2012 and will be hosted on a new platform – The Knowledge Hub – which will be a single window into a world of innovation, improvement and performance maintained by the LGA. Existing community of practice users will be automatically migrated to the new platform.
