NCB Now: Schools should get ready for children - not the other way round

Friday, March 16, 2012

Now is the best time for four-year-olds to begin the transition from nursery to school, according to the latest edition of Children in Europe magazine.

Life Changes: Supporting the Transition From Early Childhood Services to School asks whether the emphasis should be on children preparing for school – or schools adjusting to the needs of their youngest children. Aileen McLean, senior education manager of City of Edinburgh Council, shows how Curriculum for Excellence can make the first school year more flexible.

Involving parents and carers, breaking down barriers between education and care, and promoting better cross-working are among topics addressed by experts and practitioners from across the UK and Europe.
