NCB Now: Playday 2011 a huge success

Friday, August 19, 2011

Playday 2011 was truly solar-powered on 3 August, with more than half a million enjoying the fun and energy that Playday continues to inspire, at more than 520 events across the UK.

In Worthing, more than 5,000 children and their families got out to play on Broadwater Green; in Bristol, the city's long-standing Playday event banged the drum for year-round neighbourhood play; and in Islington, giant snail and hedgehog sculptures were the result of some messy mud play.

The last Playday event to be registered, at 8.52am on Playday itself, was by a family in Reading: "My husband and I are planning to take my five-month-old daughter to the park today where we will be meeting other mothers and babies for a picnic."

Play England would like to thank everyone who got involved in their local communities showing the true face of our society at its best, as well as Savlon and the official Playday 2011 national campaign supporters. As ever, the passion and enthusiasm demonstrated by Playday event organisers was astounding. It's this commitment that will ensure Playday goes from strength to strength.

We hope you had a great Playday – bring on Playday 2012.
