This month, 400 volunteers across the UK have been celebrating the completion of their Communication Ambassador training. The volunteers have been trained to spread the word about how to develop children’s communication skills with families in their local communities.

Supported by the Department for Education, the Communication Ambassador project has been run by I Can, the children’s communication charity, and The Communication Trust to promote the importance of developing the talking and listening skills of under-fives.

Virginia Beardshaw, chief executive of I Can, said: “Commun-ication skills are critical for success at school, at work and in life – by sharing information with parents the ambassadors are helping to ensure children start school in the best possible position.”

Anita Kerwin-Nye, director of The Communication Trust, said: “Congratulations to Communication Ambassadors for the great work they are doing to support parents to feel more confident and skilled in developing their child’s communication skills.”
