TV appeal for more breakfast clubs

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

More children are set to benefit from a healthy start to the day, thanks to the latest appeal by Blue Peter.

The children's TV show has joined forces with the charities ContinYou, Save the Children and the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens for its biggest ever Christmas appeal.

The money raised by Mission Nutrition will fund the setting up of new breakfast clubs across the UK through ContinYou. It will also go towards daily meals for children in Bangladesh, Columbia and South Africa through Save the Children. In addition, the appeal will help children in all four countries to grow their own food by setting up gardens through the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and Save the Children.

Tony Apicella, national programme director at ContinYou, said: "We will use funds raised by the appeal to develop new sustainable breakfast clubs in the most challenged communities across the UK, and therefore ensure a healthy meal at the start of the day is regularly accessible to thousands more children."
