Tributes paid to successful director

The president of the Association of Directors of Children's Services, Maggie Atkinson, has paid tribute to Andy Samson who was found dead earlier this month.

The body of Samson, who was director of children's services (DCS) atNorth East Lincolnshire Council, was discovered in a stream inCleethorpes on 1 November. The cause of the death remains unexplainedbut a council spokeswoman said it was believed to be "a tragicaccident".

Atkinson said: "He had been a committed and successful DCS and made asignificant contribution to developing services for children and youngpeople in his area. His death will be a loss to his colleagues in NorthEast Lincolnshire and across the country, our condolences go out to hisfamily and friends."

Councillor Andrew De Freitas, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council'said: "Andy was a fine man who was hugely passionate about children'sservices. He personally led a remarkable improvement in children'sservices in just over two years. He will be sorely missed by all who hadthe pleasure of working with him."
