After suffering my own personal bereavement at the age of 15, Winston's Wish helped me in more ways than one. Now, four years later, I am proud to say that I am a member of the team, working as a community fundraiser for the summer while also being able to continue my longstanding commitment as a young ambassador.
Winston's Wish is a charity for bereaved children. It provides support at the most devastating time and helps rebuild, not only children's lives after the loss of a loved one, but also family lives. A month after my mother died, I rang the charity's helpline just to check the way I was handling things was "right". The call was probably only 10 minutes, but that was all I needed. Just one phone call and I was on my way. I achieved my GCSEs and was ready to start my ALevels.
I first joined Winston's Wish as a young ambassador in order to thank it and battle my own restlessness. I was then offered a chance to work as community fundraiser. This has given me the opportunity to witness the fantastic work the charity carries out and to be a part of that achievement, while also reinforcing the importance of the support Winston's Wish provides.
Before heading back to Queen Mary University to study my second year of biomedical science, I was able to spend my summer working for a charity that I am deeply passionate about.
I look forward to any future work or support I may be able to give to Winston's Wish in the future.
