HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL: Newcastle marks Holocaust Day
Wednesday, January 29, 2003
Young people in Newcastle, aged 13 to 21, decorated a rock with a message of peace, something to represent their own culture or something important about their lives. The rocks were then used to build a celebration cairn at Newcastle City Library.
Jill Bauld, youth coordinator for the City Council, said: "This is a very colourful public statement by our young people. It is also especially appropriate for National Holocaust Memorial Day, which this year reflects on the ongoing discriminations that modern children face."
