Funds projects that build stronger links between communities and schools
What is it? Communities First is a Welsh government programme dedicated to tackling poverty. Delivery teams work with residents, community organisations, businesses and other key agencies to provide opportunities for people in target areas, or “clusters”. The new pupil deprivation match fund aims to address child poverty by improving joint working between schools and children’s services agencies. It will be made available to all local clusters.
How much is on offer? A total of £2m. The fund is open for applications, with grants of between £10,000 and £75,000 a year available. Clusters can apply for funding via their lead delivery body, but must show that they have a commitment of match funding from schools.
What will it fund? The government is looking for projects that build stronger links between communities and schools, to support both pupils and parents in learning. The money will allow clusters to secure additional funding if they can demonstrate how they will work with schools to improve the outcomes of young people who live in poverty. The programme is geared towards improving the sustainability of interventions and boosting the wellbeing of communities.
When is the deadline? Expressions of interest must be submitted by 1 March. The fund will be available from 1 April until 31 March 2015.
