What is a Youth Rehabilitation Order?
The Youth Rehabilitation Order (YRO) is a community sentence for young offenders who are under the age of 18. The YRO came into effect on 30 November 2009 as part of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 and has replaced a number of community sentences such as curfew orders and exclusion orders. The YRO was introduced in order to simplify sentencing for young people. It is a more flexible community sentence as it allows the courts to attach a number of different requirements to the order. A young offender might be required to abide by a curfew, for example.
