ARTS BEAT: Exposse exposure
Wednesday, January 22, 2003
More than 40 young people in the Meadow Well and Howdon areas of North Tyneside were given disposable cameras and asked to provide a candid view of their everyday experiences. The results of the collaboration between the Waterville Projects for Children & Young People and other local groups were showcased at an exhibition in December at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. Images produced for Exposse - the name derives from expose and posse - are also published in a 120-page book. In his preface to the book, documentary filmmaker Roger Graef said: "In the past, Meadow Well and Howdon have been famous for all the wrong reasons - for trouble, not for the excitement, energy and talent of their young people." Funding came from the Lottery via the Arts Council of England.
