A local authority has hit back at reports claiming it has banned cheese from school menus.
Several publications reported that Plymouth City Council had stopped allowing primary school pupils to have cheese on jacket potatoes for health reasons.
But the council has said whilst it is not allowing jacket potatoes with cheese, other dishes including cauliflower cheese and pizza will be served up.
A spokesman for the council said: "This does not mean in any way that the council has banned cheese – we have merely limited the amount used in school menus in order to provide a healthy balanced diet for our city’s school children. We accept that cheese is perfectly acceptable and has health benefits when eaten in moderation."
