Fashion and film to steer young people away from gangs

Monday, March 9, 2009

A charity that launches this week will offer young people the chance to develop skills in film production and fashion design in order to steer them away from gang culture.

The Generation Next Foundation has set up a clothing label, which will distribute young people's designs to high street stores and offer the young designers a cut of the profits.

The charity has also launched a web site, Spotliet.com, where young people can communicate and upload digital content.

Hamdi Bonin, co-founder and chair of the foundation's board of trustees, said: "The Generation Next Foundation is for young people from all backgrounds to utilise the resources that we provide to be the best they can be in life.

"Instead of demonising youth, we believe it is important to encourage them to take ownership of their destiny, make a positive impact on their communities and to provide them with a platform where their voices can be heard."
