Family Action calls for parties to pledge funding for early intervention services

A leading charity for disadvantaged families is demanding all parties promise to secure funding for services that promote early intervention and social equality.

In its six-point manifesto, Family Action calls for better outreach services for socially isolated families, more support for women and children escaping an abusive home life, and a commitment to increased funding for children's centres and parenting support.

Rhian Beynon, head of policy and campaigns at the charity, is taking the campaign on the road by informing prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) about the issues which Family Action feels should be at the top of their agenda if they gain power.

"Our priority is talking to PPCs about the need for early intervention services. Family policy has really surfaced in the run up to the election, but we want to make sure it isn't just one of those sound-bite issues.

"It's particularly important to raise awareness now because of the threat of cuts to public services during the next parliament," said Beynon.
