CYP Now conference to examine Care Review’s early help recommendations

The implications of recommendations in the Care Review to enhance early help support for vulnerable children and families will be analysed by leading experts at CYP Now’s ninth annual early help conference.
Early Help: Policy, Practice and Impact will take place on Wednesday 28 September at the Hallam Conference Centre in central London.
The conference will also examine current trends in early help across England as well as the role and impact of the government’s new family hubs programme which is being rolled out against the backdrop of a cost of living crisis.
Other Key topics to be covered at the event include:

Experiences of minority ethnic families in accessing or receiving family support: what the research tells us and implications for practice

Improving access and inclusion for young children with special educational needs and disabilities

Supporting families on the edge of care via smart recruitment and a whole-family approach

Preventing children from becoming involved in crime and violence and supporting them to make positive life choices

What effective multi-agency support looks like in achieving successful outcomes for families sustained over time.
Delegates will hear keynote speeches from John Pearce, vice president of the Association of Directors of Children's Services on the Care Review’s calls for a fundamental shift to supporting families to prevent problems escalating and Dr Tim O’Neill, from Action for Children, who will share the organisation’s steps to protect early help services.
Honor Rhodes and Sarah Ingram, from the Tavistock Relationships, will explore the impact of family hubs in reducing family conflict.
Meanwhile, Alison O’Sullivan, chair of the National Children’s Bureau, will talk about making the most of a “new era for early help” and how the sector can create change for children and families.
The conference is designed for a range of professionals working with vulnerable children and families including senior managers across children and young people’s services, commissioners, early help teams, charity chiefs, policymakers, early support coordinators, Supporting Families teams, mental health practitioners and academics.
