Alison O'Sullivan, who has worked in social care and wider children’s services for 38 years, will step down as director of children's services at Kirklees Council in April, when her year-long term as ADCS president comes to an end.

Dave Hill, director of children's services in Essex, is set to take over as ADCS president in April.

Alison Michalska, ADCS vice president elect, said: “Alison has worked for 38 years in local government. During this time she has worked across both adult social care and children’s services and has shown her commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable regardless of their age.

"We thank Alison for the contribution she has made to both children’s services and the Association and wish her the very best for the future.”

Sarah Callaghan, who is currently deputy director of children's services at Warrington Council, has been appointed to replace O'Sullivan, and will start work in March.

"Sarah is highly experienced in leading children and young people’s services and comes with a breadth of knowledge and leadership skills in important areas, such as education and learning, early intervention and prevention, and commissioning services for vulnerable children," a statement released by Kirklees Council said.

Before joining Warrington, Callaghan was head of learning and achievement for Warwickshire County Council.
