Founded over 600 years ago, the Drapers' Company is one of 12 livery companies in the City of London - a form of trade association.

The Drapers' Charitable Fund awards grants to help improve the quality of life for people and their communities. It targets the disadvantaged and socially excluded through grants in the fields of education and young people, and social welfare. Grants are also awarded in support of textiles and heritage.

How much is available?

There is no minimum or maximum grant. Grants are normally awarded for sums up to £15,000, but larger grants may be awarded.

What will it pay for?

In the area of education and young people, grants are awarded to projects that raise the aspirations or help to realise the full potential of disadvantaged young people under 25-years-old particularly in deprived areas of Greater London. This can include:

  • projects which assist young people into education, employment or training
  • projects that assist young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to continue or further their education
  • or projects that improve the self-confidence, employability, social and life skills of disadvantaged young people. The fund also provides grants for young carers, and community and family services.

When is the deadline?

People can apply at any time of the year. The organisation's charities committee meets five times a year and applications are usually considered at the next meeting following submission, providing they are received at least four weeks before the date of the meeting. Meeting dates this year are 7 October and 4 December. Applicants will usually hear within three weeks after the committee has met whether their request has been successful.
