Grants for non-specialist schools and teachers to improve music education

Funding There are three channels through which people can receive help from the foundation, each offering differing levels of assistance. The foundation will sponsor the transformation of schools into performing arts or music colleges. It also awards more than £100,000 a year to music students, teachers and non-specialist schools in the UK, and gives £5,000 bursaries to students at seven music colleges to assist students each year

Funder The EMI Music Sound Foundation was established as an independent music education charity in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of EMI Records. Its aim is to improve young people's access to music education in the UK and Ireland. While the foundation shares the EMI name, it is independently governed.

Aim The aim is the improvement of music education, with a focus on youth. For teachers, funding is available for training and non-specialist schools can apply for assistance in purchasing instruments, software and other musical equipment. For individual students, grants are given to help purchase instruments or musical equipment.

Who can apply? Any music teacher wanting to fund courses and training can apply, as well as non-specialist schools interested in improving music education for its pupils. In addition, the foundation helps music students in full-time education to purchase instruments.
