At a time of significant economic challenge, the voluntary and community sector is under more pressure than ever to survive the economic storm while continuing to deliver vital services for young people and adapting to meet changes in the funding landscape.

Accessing funding has always been a challenge. But one of the major challenges is how to identify the right funding stream for a particular piece of work and select the right funder to target for support. In helping us to navigate our way through the funding sources available and in making the most of our potential to raise funds, this guide is a useful tool.

Like any funding guide, certain elements of information become outdated as new funding streams emerge. However, this guide has been revised and updated to include new information including details of resources available from the Big Lottery Fund, for example. The guide also includes a range of useful information and resources that will be of interest to new staff involved in fundraising as well as others who require a refresher or a resource against which to cross-check their current approaches.

Most companies prefer to sponsor activities in their own area of operation or fund organisations in which a member of staff is involved or where there is some sort of personal connection to a cause.
