Lewisham is given top Ofsted rating

| 12 November 2007

The London Borough of Lewisham has been given an outstanding rating by Ofsted for the way it manages services for children and young people.

The Joint Area Review inspection found improved outcomes for all young people, but particularly black pupils, whose attainment was significantly raised in all areas, including GCSE results and entry into higher education.

Despite such progress, safeguarding provision in the borough was rated as merely adequate, as were sexual and reproductive health services. The separate enhanced youth inspection rated services for young people in the area as good.
