CHARITIES: Charities see rise in voluntary income

Wednesday, January 29, 2003

Voluntary income to charities, including those set up to help young people, grew in 2001/02, despite less corporate support.

Thirty-eight charities participated in the 2002 Fundratios Project, including The Prince's Trust, NCH, NSPCC, Save the Children and Barnardo's.

Fundratios is a management tool put together by the Centre for Interfirm Comparison (CIC) and the Institute of Fundraising.

Mike Moffat, project director at the CIC, said: "Legacy and active fundraising produced a 10.8 per cent rise in voluntary income. But growth was not merely fortuitous, as charities increased their investment in fundraising by some 14 per cent."
