Sports events are in the pipeline for 2,000 schoolgirls in Bridgend this summer, through the Girls First initiative. This is set up by the Sports Council of Wales, which awards grants of 1,000 to schools. "There are many reasons why take-up is low so we wanted to encourage them," said Jane Thomas, sports development officer for Bridgend County Borough Council.
