Youth Justice: Yorkshire scheme inspires the NYPD

The New York Police Department is among a raft of organisations using a DVD designed to combat youth gun and knife crime in south Yorkshire.
Gameover was created by South Yorkshire Police with the help of young people to provide a credible tool to use in schools as part of its anti-weapon education programmes. The DVD, launched in February, was also put on video sharing websites. Since then it has been downloaded 4,065 times via YouTube, MySpace and Google Video.
South Yorkshire Police has received requests to use the DVD from 77 other youth justice agencies including the New York Police Department, Defence Rosyth Fife in Scotland, African Refugees Health Access and Support in Bradford, and the Metropolitan Police force in London.
Assistant chief constable Bob Dyson of South Yorkshire Police said: "Our message is clear - guns and knives take lives. We need everyone, including parents, to work together to keep communities safe."
