Child depression is focus of research

King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry has joined forces with health union Unite to examine depression in school-aged children.
Ros Godson, professional officer for school-aged children's health at Unite, said: "The institute wants to know if we have seen an increase in the number of children presenting with depression in the past five years. It is concerned that the condition is not picked up and, as a result, these children are vulnerable as they get older."
The UK-wide survey of 600 school nurses also aims to ascertain what post-qualifying mental health training school nurses have had and whether they need more resources or support from child and adolescent mental health services.
