Abused children and young people are being left to struggle alone due to a lack of support services, the NSPCC's director said today.
In a speech at a Michael Sieff Foundation conference Mary Marsh said there is a massive shortfall in services to help abused children recover from their experiences.
“Every child who has been abused needs therapeutic help in order to overcome their experiences,” she said.
“Without these essential services, a child may carry the trauma of abuse and related psychiatric problems into adulthood.”
Marsh said the government should give abused children a legal entitlement to therapeutic services in the Children and Young Persons Bill.
