Government identifies priorities for service development

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has published the evidence that will inform its plans to develop children's services.
The document, Children and Young People Today, will be used to identify areas where services need to be more effective. A Children’s Plan strategy to address these concerns is expected next month.
The evidence review includes findings from the Time to Talk consultation, which gathered the views of children, young people, and adults. This uncovered a range of concerns, such as personal safety, and a lack of activities for young people.
Overall, however, the evidence concludes that most children and young people in England lead happy, stable lives.
Ross Hendry, head of public policy at children’s charity NCH, said: “We welcome the fact that the government has published this, but we don’t want people to start playing politics with the numbers. It should be about identifying need.”
