Minister calls for police to tackle cyberbullying

Monday, November 19, 2007

Junior children's minister Kevin Brennan has called on schools to work with youth offending teams and the police to tackle the most severe cases of cyberbullying.

Speaking at a CYP Now and Anti-Bullying Alliance conference to mark the launch of anti-bullying week, Brennan said schools should get the whole community involved in tackling the problem.

“As a government we regard this issue very seriously indeed and schools should have the processes and the framework in place to deal with the problem properly,” said Brennan.

“They should be liaising with youth offending teams and even the police when cyberbullying becomes extreme in order to get their support.”

Brennan also called on internet service providers to make cyber safety a priority.
